Mission trips: practical help and enriching lives

One of the focus points of GAiN is the mission trips we organize. We gladly offer practical help wherever necessary. We, amongst others, help in places where disasters have struck. Think for example about the Philippines where typhoon Haiyan caused chaos in November 2013. We also help with development projects in which we have been involved for years, for example projects with Roma in Romania or with the poor Zulu population in South Africa.
The contents of a mission trip depend on the needs of the local project. Sometimes it concerns building or work with children, sometimes also medical help, all to temporarily support the local team.
Next to the practical help like building a house or renovating a church, our involvement with the local population is equally important. People enjoy the attention they are getting. We work with children in many locations, in others we do home visits. In these ways you can offer a listening ear and encouraging words. You are never sure what it means for someone that you are coming from a distant country to bless them in their homes.
For years, we have experienced that it is valuable to temporarily render yourself to such a project. You do not only take a special experience home with you, but you are also spiritually nurtured by a mission trip and we hope that it gives you enthusiasm for development work, relief and evangelism. During the trip we talk about justice and the plan God has for people. Such a trip gives you handles to practice your faith. We offer a variety of mission trips for which you can subscribe. It is also possible to sign up as a group or to travel individually.
God has made me think. He taught me a lot through the things I have seen on the mission trip.

We assume that you take care of the amount for the mission trip yourself. To assist you with it, GAiN has a document with suggestions for actions you could organize to raise money for your participation in a mission trip. In the Netherlands there is a possibility of tax deduction when at least 80% of the mission trip is actually spent on providing aid.
GAiN is an international organization. Since 2013 we are trying to cooperate with other European GAiN offices to combine certain trips. Various other European countries also offer mission trips. Because of this cooperation it is possible for other Europeans to join our international trips and vice versa. This creates an interesting diversity within the group of participants.
You can be send for a short or long term as volunteer or to do an internship. It is, for example, possible to work with a local project for several months. The ideal form of travelling if you are independent and if you like pioneering! Beware, such a trip can change your life!
Alpha groups, churches, families, companies and friends know where to find us to organize a fitting mission trip. Individual participants can sometimes join these groups. Inquire for the possibilities.
GAiN has organized several social internships for high schools and smaller groups in the past. Please contact us to learn more about the options for a social internship.
GAiN employees are more than willing to come along for an information meeting. We can then discuss the wishes and look after the best match.
We recommend that participants take a travel- and cancellation insurance. GAiN offers one for €2,25 per day. Pay attention whether your personal travel insurance also covers mission trips.
The mission trips of GAiN (Global Aid Network) are characterized by:
Think, pray and act
You offer practical help and (therewith) bless people out of your trust in God. It also puts you to think about yourself and your world view.
A GAiN trip changes your life and your world view.
GAiN trips are focused on practical help. Think for example about renovating a roof, building a creche, painting, vacation bible week, work with children, evangelism, social work and recreation. Emergency aid and rebuilding trips are also options. You could extend the trip with a week of vacation.
Contact and cooperation with the local population.
On faith and development work. GAiN is as much interested in your development as a participant as in the practical work we do together.
GAiN cooperates with several organization, amongst others with Campus Crusade for Christ (known in the Netherlands as Agapè) which is active in over 190 countries. GAiN helps local projects realize their work and is long term involved in projects which provides continuity.

But if anyone has this world’s goods and sees his brother and fellow believer in need, yet closes his heart of compassion against him, how can the love of God live and remain in him? Children, let us not love merely in theory or in speech but in deed and in truth. By this we shall come to know that we are of the Truth, and can reassure our hearts in His presence.
